Thank you Bryce for your reply - indeed I am using Kubuntu. As the freezers are really annoying I tried to downgrade the intel driver to version 2.4 (according to this: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4). Since than I had no freezers anymore.
Maybe this also helps others. Unfortunately I do not know what improvments I miss now due to the downgrade, but at least for me everything is working for the time.
