What's wrong with not wanting to scroll miles to the bottom of the mail to
read the latest post?
Top posting and bottom posting/in line comments have context sensitive
benefits.
If there are no in line comments or no logical sequence, or much
detail, in discussion, then bottom posting can be tedious, if not even
silly. In my family emails it would be inappropriate to bottom post.
Also in my previous business experience in a major water company for
10 years, emails had a stand alone status, and a displayed thread
showed the latest email at the top.
In a technical forum, or other environment where discussions are very
likely to have a logical sequence, and often a discussion thread with
many comments, then in line comments and bottom posting have a strong
benefit. If a convention in a forum is maintained, it is easy to know
what to expect, so conventions are defended and promoted.
Makes sense. Bottom posting has always seemed counter intuitive to me.
