A while ago I made plans to tidy up the various passwords I've got
stored in .muttrc and other dot files. 

I haven't yet gotten any further than bookmarking a tutorial on
interacting with gnome keyring from python:

Given that you're looking along the same lines now might be the time for
me to get further than that...
