For instance, I am 1000 and my wife is 1001. So the user IDs on your disks may not necessarily be aligned with the user IDs on the computer you are mounting them. On the other hand, if you were the only user on the old machine and you are the only user on the new machine, then the user ID on all the user files will be 1000 (ie you). If this is not the case, you may have to change the owner on some of the files.
