The client is cross-platform (it's FUSE based on Linux and Mac) and you just pay for the storage that you use. When it started it was Amazon S3 based but it's owned by Rackspace now so it's probably based on their Cloudfiles service. Dropbox is also good, more so because it's also available on phones as well as PCs, but I tend to use that for files that I need available everywhere rather than backups. I've had a look at Ubuntu One recently but I'm not keen on the proprietary aspects, or its lack of support for Mac as yet.
