If you have a router, it's unlikely to work for you.

The problem is that the proxy server setting doesn't get kept when you
use 'sudo' to run the update.

The solution is to run the following 3 commands in a terminal session:

sudo -s
export http_proxy=http://<whatever your proxy server address is>
dpkg-reconfigure flashplugin-installer


There's a bug filed for this, but I can't find it at the moment. It
sounds like this solution is not going to work for you though.
