I have been mulling over a few logo related ideas, I think we have to have a decent idea of the core image we want prior to redesigning the website. Here is one idea

Those are the right colours from the design team Ubuntu GIMP palette, but obviously it would be re-done in inkscape as an SVG. The UK bit is capital letters, but reduced in size to the size to line up with the lower case letters, I would make the UK a bit bolder I think, it looks lighter than the ubuntu bit at the moment. I haven't tried to incorporate the union flag or colour bits of the circle of friends red white and blue, mainly because I think that ends up looking a bit odd. We are showing it to people in this country and they know where they live already.
