Could, do or you could ask if a certaih PC runs linux, and just happen to have a live cd to hand to insert and find out, after asking, as in lets find out shall we. If you were in a position to make a purchase but refuse to buy unless it runs Linux properly, in the current climate and to make a sale they may let you, it may however be worth doing some homework first, going in or several people going in over a period of time and seeing which staff are Linux aware and know what they are talking about, then go in and ask them, you may find they are more co-operative.
