Kris, When you boot the machine, press SHIFT to get the GRUB menu, then press 'e' to edit the first line, remove 'quiet splash' at the end of the penultimate line and press CTRL-x to boot[1]. It should now boot without the logo and should also display a lot of things on the console. Hopefully the last thing it displays will be a meaningful error message. Another thing you can do if you have another computer lying around is enable netconsole[2] so that it sends the full boot log to the other computer.
