Going back to the start of this thread, when you say you couldn't find the Desktop folder and so you "typed it in manually" what precisely do you mean?
Is it possible that you managed to drag the Desktop folder from where it should have been (ie. your home directory) to somewhere else in the first instance, then in "typing it in manually" you managed to rename your Documents folder Desktop?? I doubt it's got anything to do with the disk being full, to be honest. As for re-allocating the XP partition, you could do that... or you could simply start using the XP partition from within Linux to store your files. Set it so that it mounts automatically and create a symbolic link from your home directory to it. Indeed, you could make it so that your Downloads, Documents directories etc. are all symbolic links to the XP partition.
