Hello, Rob. I was quite keen to run Ubuntu on a PS3 too until I found out about the *severe* memory constraints of this computer: The main CPU can only access 256MiB of the *maximum* 512MiB RAM that can be installed, but the GPU can access the other 256MiB. One of the 'Synergistic' processors is also permanently locked out, even if you use the TerraSoft/Fixstars YDL kernel: http://www.fixstars.com/en/products/ydl/ This extra processor can only be used by proprietary applications. Add to this the announcement by IBM that it has stopped developing the Cell processor and my interest in the PS3 has quickly evaporated! http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2009/11/end-of-the-line-for-ibms-cell.ars HTH, Tony. -- Dr. A.J.Travis, University of Aberdeen, Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health, Greenburn Road, Bucksburn, Aberdeen AB21 9SB, Scotland, UK tel +44(0)1224 712751, fax +44(0)1224 716687, http://www.rowett.ac.uk mailto:a.tra...@abdn.ac.uk, http://bioinformatics.rri.sari.ac.uk/~ajt -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
