Not all old people are poor. I was on a cruise up the Norwegian coast last year, and sat next to an old(er) woman (than me) who knew nothing about computers but did use them a bit, and was determined to buy an Asus EEEpc (linux). I believed the motivation was an article that had appeared in the daily telegraph before that. The attraction I think was the security. The price will also no doubt include the possibility of a number of phone calls like how do I get my emails? Or how do I get my volume up? I wish them luck With Valerie S on board it will get noticed, and I hope they make a lot of money too! That is the motivator for *businesses*, after all, isn't it? However, the Proprietary Infection is rampant in Age Concern. Also helped by donations in various forms from Microsoft. Some readers here may recall I set up and ran the Age Concern Berkshire Computer centre - ran many thousands of sessions for clients, with the help of a dozen other volunteers. Then I discovered Linux. It soon was obvious to me that a GNU/Linux based system was far more suitable for vulnerable novices than Windows, and I - with much regret - decided I had to resign because I was no longer going to help those vulnerable novices get entangled with Windows, with all its risks and problems for the unwary, going ho,me after their first hands on session talking about shopping on line. Some years later, I am still working away at the Great Wall of Indoctrination, on Age Concern Forums: http://www.ageconcern.org.uk/discuss/categories.cfm?catid=10 :-) -- alan cocks Ubuntu user -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/
