Hi folks,

I've just finished setting up an Acer TravelMate 5730 for a customer of
mine. During the setup I created a recovery disk for the machine using
PartImage and thought I'd mention that it works fine with Linux Mint 7.
Although I didn't actually get chance to try it with Ubuntu (didn't have
a disk handy) it worked well in Mint 7, the wireless (Intel wireless),
Blue Tooth (Broadcom), wired ethernet (Broadcom) and everything just
seemed to work. In fact I had more luck with Mint than I did with XP
which blue screened on installation (I had to change the BIOS settings
for the SATA controller from AHCI to IDE to get it to work on XP).

I thought this might be useful for anyone looking for a notebook. I did
find though that they're not as cheap as some of the notebooks out there
as they are aimed at businesses and have Vista Business pre-installed
(along with an XP recovery disc) but I believe Acer do offer refunds on
Windows although you do have to send it to their service centre down in
Plymouth for them to remove the licence sticker and wipe the drive (I
know, silly really).

Rob
