I have a keyboard in grub. It is when Ubuntu loads that the keyboard and the mouse disappear. Unfortunately the recovery mode is no different, they're "disabled" in that mode too. I've loaded a Live CD and am looking at the filesystems from that. But if I try to boot from any form of installed version I get the same symptoms... as soon as the little twiddly "working" thing comes up that's my keyboard and mouse gone, so I can't enter usernames, passwords or anything... and same happens if I do a Ctrl-Alt-F1 or similar during the boot up process... as soon as it gets to a certain stage the keyboard just "falls off the planet".
