You might be surprised if you check it. I have an old Dell optiplex
desktop PC which currently functions as my firewall - running IPcop. I
checked the power consumption and it's ~90W. I also have a viglen
which I will use to replace the Dell, and that consumes 8W.

As the viglen has only one ethernet port I plan to use a USB ethernet
adapter to supplement that. Unfortunately the one I have maxed out at
6Mb/s which is useless when my broadband is 20Mb/s. Apparently the
Apple branded USB ethernet adapter is better, so I'll probably get one
of those instead.
