Are you sure?  I'm using VB 2.0.6 on an ubuntu 8.04 box, and that's the 
version in the Hardy repos.  I'm not being prompted to update by the 
Update Manager.

But I installed my VB 2.0.6 from the Sun site (because theirs had 
features absent from the version in the repos), and I AM getting 
prompted by VB itself to upgrade to 2.1.4 from the Sun site.

And, like you, when I clicked on the link and downloaded the new version 
from Sun, I found it wouldn't install.  I couldn't quite see why (and I 
don't have time or inclination to investigate), but I guess that, 
because it's not the Hardy package, there's an incompatibility with 
something in Hardy.
