It's interesting how you view the LTS release.

Personally I thought that the point of LTS was that you wouldn't keep up
to date with the latest version numbers, but patches for security/bugs
would be issued throughout the LTS timespan so that you end up with a
secure, stable and reliable platform without having to concern yourself
with managing incompatibilities with backported software.
