I did agree with what you said. I was also interested in seeing whether the problem was known to the developers so that they would have had a chance of fixing it, and I couldn't find a bug report. Also, I found Norman's mail to be less about asking for help with the problem, and more about discussing how the problem happened and how to get it fixed, so your mail may have been more appropriate.
