After a brief discussion in the IRC channel, I'm proposing an ubuntu-uk
newsletter. The target audience would be you lot, the Ubuntu-UK user base.
It would also be for people who are taking there first steps into the UK
Ubuntu world.

The various things I see being included are the obligitary reviews of
hardware/software, interviews with various people in the community, pieces
written by those running projects (such as the Ubuntu based community
centers in Exeter maybe?).

The brief chat we had on IRC proposed it to be a pdf/html document, with
shiny pictures and things. I'd imagine there being a process in place where
people can submit articles or opinion pieces which would be sent to a group
of editors. These editors would then check the pieces submitted for
spelling/grammar and the like and then typeset them using LaTeX maybe?
Using LaTeX would allow the use of a CVS such as bzr, making the process
easier to manage.

This could all be scoped to a timetable so articles/opinion pieces and so
on where submitted by a date, so that the editors can check and typeset
them ready for publishing on another date. I'm not sure we could rustle up
enough stuff for a fortnightly release... so I think initially a monthly
release might be practical. If we find we get enough stuff, then this could
be changed.

The reasons for doing this are after the communication issue being brought
up about the community seeming a bit quiet sometimes. I honestly hope this
would help, but as with all things it's not a guarentee, and after an issue
or two it might be worth taking a step back and seeing if we're achieving
this aim.

A lot of the stuff we hope will come from the community (that's you lot),
so if anyones got a pet project they've been working on they want to write
about, or indeed want to have a good whinge/rant about than that's what we
want!

Hopefully this could become another medium in which we can get the news out
through. If anyone has any comments please do comment so we can plan the
way forward. If you want to get involved fantastic! Reply back stating what
you would like to do. Please be as critical with this proposal as you'd
like.

Thanks,

Matt Daubney
