Ahh I think I might be a bit behind here. I'm running Kernel 2.6.24-12-generic (AMD64) and SPDIF passthrough doesn't appear to be working. Still for now I'm happy to boot into the older 2.6.24-11 Kernel. Guess it's part of running an Alpha copy of Ubuntu (generally seems really stable with only one or two crashes).
