I wasn't persistent enough obviously! I was expecting it to just work on
Linux Mint.

On gutsy, I found a solution with totem-gstreamer. The first time,
nothing shows, so I right click and select play in own window. Totem
then pops up and says 'you need a codec for this, so you want to search
for one?' I go through all that and it then all works, even in the
embedded player.
