All I mean is I would buy a better model than the ones dell offer with
Ubuntu on it and put Ubuntu on it myself.

Good point about supporting the selling of Ubuntu pcs from major pc
manufacturers.

This is the reason why I intend to buy dell ubuntu kit - even at a 
(modest) premium
