There is also an issue about how valuable your data is. I have found it useful to distinguish between the levels of priority of my data. For my most valuable material, I use rysnc to keep a copy with rysnc.net [1]. This has the advantage of being fully automated. For the rest of it, I use Unison [2] and an external hard-drive.
