Just wanted to give some feedback on the event I was arranging in Exeter.

Didn't go as well as hoped but it was a good experience. We went to
the event with a whole load of copies of The OpenCD (about 75 discs!)
and a few Ubuntu CDs (we had a variety of Ubuntu 7.04, Kubuntu 6.10
and Ubuntu/Kubuntu 6.06).

The stand we had was outside which caused a bit of a problem. I had
two PCs and a laptop although due to the sunny weather we couldn't see
the screens or show what Ubuntu was like.

We had a variety of leaflets, both the text only versions (Alan Cock's
FOSS leaflets) and the Had Enough beta leaflet.

We managed to give out a few leaflets, and sold ONE copy of The
OpenCD. We couldn't sell any Ubuntu discs. We also gave out a load
of Tux stickers. Paul (one of the guys who was with me from the Devon
& Cornwall LUG) had the idea of printing Tux on some round Avery
labels which was popular.

Next year I'm hoping we can have more stickers, a big banner (I
printed Tux on a A3 page) and a whole load of Ubuntu CDs to give away
free from Ship-IT (rather than burning and CD-Rs myself), a marquee
(to keep the sun off) and maybe some tux balloons and professional
printed leaflets (which will be cheaper than printing them on a colour
laser, and more professional looking).

Something that was popular with the kids was a printed picture of a
penguin to colour in. I found two pengun pictures (not tux, but
penguins) which I printed off (2 on an A4 sheet) which kids could then
colour in.

I do wonder actually with regards to professional printed leaflets and
balloons if we could get a whole lot printed (say 5000 of each) to
keep the cost down and split the order amongst a few of us?

Anyway, if I think of anything else from the day I'll let you all know.

Our next event in the South West will be hopefully two events for
Software Freedom Day 2007 on 15th Sept. One will hopefully be in
Plymouth, and the other hopefully in Exeter.

Ta,

Rob
