Hi Jim, I'm on Ubuntu 6.10, upgraded from Ubuntu 6.06 and I found the same problem. It can be circumvented by making the change in gconf (gconf-editor) at /apps/gnome-power-manager/action_button_power, just set it to "nothing", as it says in the description field.
