As I understood it, the term "GNU/Linux" refers to a distribution that contains only GPL-compatible code. So, Ubuntu is a Linux distribution, but not a "GNU/Linux" distribution. There seems to be some inconsistentcy in this - sometimes Stallman's used the definition above, but at other times he's demanded that ALL distributions be called GNU/Linux if they include ANY GNU/HURD code.
