Hi Michael, l believe that Ubuntu is using the 1.0.8776 nvidia-glx driver. According to the readme included with this driver your card should be supported by it. The latest nvidia drivers available however don't support the Geforce 4 as nvidia has dropped it to legacy support. Short answer: you should be OK with the nvidia-glx driver from your Ubuntu repositories.
