Perhaps the Ultramonkey-L7[1] stuff may help with that. I'm pretty sure it's all geared towards web stuff, but with a bit of work could probably be made to work with mysql as well (I'm not that familiar with the workings of recent mysqls, I'd usually favour postgres for serious work, but perhaps look at the mysql docs to see what options they suggest for the type of solution you are after).
