/etc/apt/sources.list is a file. Don't give up so easily. Open a terminal, and run `gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list &` to edit it. gksudo gives you root (aka administrator on Windows) permissions to edit files outside of your home directory. gedit is the GNOME editor.
