1) Do I need to install any anti-virus/malware or firewall software on Ubuntu?
I will go against the grain and say "Yes" to the AV software. Although your Ubuntu box might not be succeptible to viruses, if you're receiving & sending data (either through FTP, Mail, or other means) then you will be able to spot anything nasty before you pass it on. On several occasions I've spotted Email attachments with Windows viruses and then informed the sender that they had problems. Personally I've used both F-prot & ClamAV.
