It's used for hosting a web server, for example, so that if the machine with public access from the internet is hacked, your internal machine(s) are safe (or safer) from it. It only applies if you have a genuine router that connects to the internet. It sounds like you can ignore this with your current set-up. One of the options on the initial menu that the CD displays is 'Check CD' or words to that effect. It can take a while to run, but it will check that the Ubuntu CD isn't bad.
