Thanks for everyones help. I have had it running over the weekend and it's still on now, so problem solved. Just adding an option of acpi=off to the Grub boot loader solved the issue. (Thanks Alan) The next project is to run a scaled down Ubuntu install as a pre-installation environment on our 700 PCs, so to provide tools to rebuild Windows, auto-backup tools, etc for our User Support people.
