The password hash is the "random looking symbols" in the second
column (everything between the ':' colons).  Try making this:

 keith:aefAWffp98fA2:nnnnn:m:ooooo:p:::
       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
look like:

  keith::nnnnn:m:ooooo:p:::
