Hi Hans, I am not sure why you say no input is available. I believe the sub-devices are referring to the number of streams/channels (which could be internal sources like a software instrument) that can be sent to that output.
To see what input devices you have, run $ arecord -l The first error seems to say that ALSA is not happy about a period size of 16 frames. Maybe you could use Studio-Controls to change that setting to something else? Studio-Controls is great for trying different settings until it works. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/UbuntuStudioControls There is some advice on the settings to use for USB devices there, and on the previous Pro-Audio link I sent in a previous thread.
