I don't notice anything weird about midi playback nor input/output. Most likely it has been improved, I wouldn't know the diference since I have been using linux for just one year. Wine automatically detects all your alsa midi outputs and inputs and makes them available in the windows program. Then you can easily use a2j to use them with jack.
