If so, your Linux install need some fixes ;).
The http://a1.images6.thomann.de/pics/thumb/185425-80.jpg ,
unfortunately not part of Thomann's product range anymore, just needs
the driver: "snd-usb-audio" It's a plug'n'play device and runs on any
default Linux install I ever used.

yes i'm able to solder, but i dont know, if the result would that hifi ;-)
Perhaps the web and this list is able to help you regarding to the
quality of a discrete circuit pre-amp ;) if you should be fine with an
audio device that has got no mic inputs.

yea. the funny thing was, that i needed this usb-midi-interface for my crapy winXP-pc to edit a synthie with a windows-only-software. so i ordered this cheap swiss-sonic-thing. it worked fine with linux - but there was no way to run it with windows. now, i got a cakewalk UM-1G, which works fine. but thats not part of my original question.

i just need the usb-audio-interface as a gift to a friend, to help her with her first steps of electronic-music. well acutally, the first steps are already done... but shes producing with a not-at-all-fast-laptop and the intern sound-card.

so thank you for all suggestions. i will check them all out.

i would be glad if somebody can send me a circuit diagram of a pre-amp. or a link. it will help me maybe with another project. (i will tell you more, if its more then an idea). but no hurry...

for the moment, i'm looking for a interface with integrated pre-amp.
