Reinstalling the OS from a new CD won't incur loss of data? Should I backup all my files first?

I was just checking new Ubuntu bugs and there are problems with firefox freezing unrelated to RT.
RT freezes also, all by itself, (mine has anyway) but I think the problems are separate.
