Yeah you're right, and I concur with your investigation. Unfortunately we'll almost certainly not get anything further from the reporter, as is usually the case... Looking at the dpkg history log here, it looks like the user was setting up a laptop(?), possibly had trouble with their hardware (evidenced by repeated reinstalls of fwupd), then the next day they installed mysql, purged it, reinstalled, then hit the issue. Could the "File exists" error be due to something leftover from the attempted purge? Didn't we have a bug about install->purge->reinstall->crash? I'm not spotting an obvious one open against mysql-8.0 but we've certainly seen variations of this pattern.
