Note that I want to raise additional concerns about libfcgi's upstream. Their official mailing list[1] bounces, and the archives' last message is from May of 2011 saying "ok new mailing list is setup and working".
I think that contact with the authors must be made before we can make any decisions about this. The library is of a high quality and the implementation seems sound, so perhaps we just need upstream to fix the mailing list and assert that they are there and ready to respond to any bugs.
