Public bug reported: In bug 613463, we kind of skirted the issue. The bug was caused when I added code in eucalyptus-nc that depended on grub-mkimage, and files in grub-pc. I also added the dependency on grub-pc. That caused a UEC install bug because grub-pc was then installed earlier in the installation process than it normally would have been.
We worked around the bug by removing the grub-pc dependency from UEC. I talked to Collin about this, and he suggested that we should try to resolve this more correctly, and not depend on grub-pc, but rather should use grub-rescue-pc as a runtime dependency [1]. Basically we'd use the mtools, and treat the ISO filesystem from grub-rescue-pc as a strange delivery mechanism for the files we need. The end result would be added dependency on mtools and grub-rescue-pc to eucalyptus-nc, but hopefully no other side effects. -- [1] http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2010/09/03/%23ubuntu-devel.html ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: eucalyptus-nc (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-15.21-server 2.6.35.1 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-15-server x86_64 .etc.eucalyptus.eucalyptus.cc.conf: CC_NAME="us-moser-1" Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Sep 6 21:41:37 2010 ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: eucalyptus ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug maverick -- eucalyptus-nc is missing dependency on grub-pc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632096 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
