Thanks Serge, I rebooted the computer fixing the package with the --configure -a as the package manager requested. I have managed to apply all the upgrades that the upgrade manager required except the mysql 5.1 upgrade. And rebooted again.
I attempted to do the mysql upgrade separately. After 24 hours it still sits at the same spot as described in the bug report. I rebooted again, ran synaptic package manager, fixed it as usual, ran it again then attempted to uninstall mysql, thinking that might be simpler. - it will not let me uninstall. Yen when i attempt the upgrade it tells me it would be better if i uninstalled it and reinstalled, which i cannot do. I do want to keep my settings because i use mysql for some great apps like SugarCRM, but i have so far been going in circles with the upgrade/uninstall/reinstall.
