I reproduce this error on Ubuntu 9.04 with OpenVPN 2.1_rc11 These are 2 instances of the logs when openvpn server crashes. It's worth noting that it happens in the same second and just after disconnecting of management interface. The only operation that has been done in management interface session was killing one client.
