As best I can tell, the behavior of the patch is explicitly forbidden by RFC 4178 section 5; see II under clause B and C. However, I'll admit that the behavior described in Appendix C does not seem consistent with what I remember for Windows 2000... Perhaps that's only the Windows behavior for krb5 but not NTLM?
