Chuck - see the upload. The test script (called test) first uses the netbios name redirecting its output to the file ntserver3, then uses the IP address redirecting its output to file IP91.249. I ran it three times.
The netbios calls all worked as I would expect, and as you can see on the file ntserver3. All three of the IP calls showed the same "access denied" error - see IP91.249. FYI and to help you to assess things, I also have a record of an isolated failed overnight backup. The problem with that sort of event is its unrepeatability, so it is not really suitable bugfix fodder. But interestingly (IMHO) the unrepeatable backup failure also included error messages similar to the access denied messages on the IP smbclient output; the very much longer path and file name "session request to" field was progressively curtailed over several successive reports. So within this reproducible issue are processes that were also present in my unrepeatable backup failure. If you wish to follow up on the backup failure I will go over the records and get more detail for you.
