Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu. The smb.conf file you attached is fine in terms of syntax.
Your dpkg terminal log is full of GTK errors: (frontend:29420): Gtk-[1;35mCRITICAL[0m **: [34m20:37:43.501[0m: _gtk_widget_captured_event: assertion 'WIDGET_REALIZED_FOR_EVENT (widget, event)' failed and ends with: Gdk-[1;32mMessage[0m: [34m20:37:43.636[0m: frontend: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0. dpkg: error processing package samba-common (--configure): installed samba-common package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 I'm not sure what happened, maybe the installation was canceled by mistake at that prompt, or there was some timeout involved (screen saver kicked in?). You seem to have done quite the upgrade, what was this, a dist-upgrade from bionic? To do release upgrades, you should use the do-release- upgrade tool. In any case, at this point, if you haven't done so already, I suggest the following: sudo apt update sudo apt -f install And that will hopefully continue the installation. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860878 Title: package samba-common 2:4.10.7+dfsg-0ubuntu2.4 failed to install/upgrade: installed samba-common package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1860878/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
