It's unclear why this error happened. May I suggest you run the
following to see if that fixes it:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install

You could also try to reinstall the libmspack package:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libmspack0:i386

I just deployed a fresh xenial container, which btw already had
libmspack0 installed, but for the amd64 arch. I then added i386, and
installed libmspack0:i386, and that worked flawlessly:

root@x1:~# dpkg --add-architecture i386
root@x1:~# apt-get update
(...)
root@x1:~# apt-get install libmspack0:i386
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
  libfreetype6
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove it.
The following additional packages will be installed:
  gcc-6-base:i386 libc6:i386 libgcc1:i386

Pending more information to help reproduce this issue, I'll switch the bug 
status to "incomplete".
