Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu. Your dmesg log shows many hardware errors related to your disk or disk controller: [ 1162.448870] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 [ 1162.448882] ata1.00: irq_stat 0x40000001 [ 1162.448891] ata1.00: failed command: WRITE DMA EXT [ 1162.448910] ata1.00: cmd 35/00:00:00:00:33/00:0a:00:00:00/e0 tag 14 dma 1310720 out res 11/04:b8:86:05:51/00:0a:03:00:00/e3 Emask 0x3 (HSM violation) [ 1162.448918] ata1.00: status: { ERR } [ 1162.448923] ata1.00: error: { ABRT } [ 1162.448934] ata1: hard resetting link
That correlates to the "input/output" errors shown when installing the package. You should inspect your hardware, sata cables, hard disk, etc, as something is faulty. Since this isn't a defect in the samba software, I'm marking the bug as invalid. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1808869 Title: package samba-libs 2:4.7.6+dfsg~hostname-0ubuntu2.5 failed to install/upgrade: unable to make backup link of './usr/lib/x86_64 -linux-gnu/samba/libsamdb-common.so.0' before installing new version: Input/output error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1808869/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
