I'm trying to sort out what this means.  Do we actually care that the
maas *controller* be installable with zero intervention?  Why is this an
important feature?

Again, this has nothing to do with installing nodes.  Nodes should
install with zero intervention and Just Work.  Why do we expect nobody
to ever need to interact with or configure the controller, however?
