No. While still using the beta, I reinstalled Intrepid Server without installing any of the GUI packages. That seemed to resolve my problems, so I assumed that they were due to some interaction between Samba and one of the extra services the GUI packages cause to be installed.
Everything has been fine since then, and the server now runs fine on the released version of Intrepid.
