@Brazeiro: which version of ubuntu are you running ?

On hardy, mysql is protected by an apparmor profile that doesn't allow
mysqld to read files in /home/mysql/mysql/. Check in /var/log/messages
to see if there apparmor messages.

updating mysqld profile to allow access to /home/mysql/.
